With poignant, humorous tales of powerful love, awkward sex, and courage in the face of adversity, Baker reveals how he helped his mother and family through the Great Depression by delivering papers and hustling subscriptions to the Saturday Evening Post-a job which introduced him to bullies, mentors, and heroes who endured this national disaster with hard work and good cheer.Ĭalled “a treasure” by Anne Tyler and “a blessing” by Time magazine, this autobiography is a modern-day classic-“a wondrous book as funny and touching as Mark Twain’s” ( Los Angeles Times Book Review). Read Online The Duke Who Didnt (Wedgeford Trials, 1) EPUB by Courtney Milan is a great book to read and thats why I recommend reading or downloading. I loved learning about the Hakka people of China and this town being completely filled with Chinese people in their own village that they created on their own was really well-developed. I seek out diverse historicals and this is maybe one of the best I’ve read. ![]() The other – overt, major – theme is how much this is not the oh so white historical that we’ve seen so often. That it was hard for Chloe to come to understand this was just really lovely to see Jeremy slowly realize how much he had hurt her. Jeremy shows her repeatedly that he is here…and he won’t be going anywhere. There’s a few different themes running throughout this book that I loved but my favorite was how Milan emphasizes the feeling of abandonment, and how difficult it is to actually put that past you. ![]() He is trying to atone for what he thinks of as his past misdeeds and in coming back to ask Chloe to marry him wants to let her know that he’s changed. She’s also anxious and complex, did I mention I felt such an affinity for her?! And every time the other protagonist gives her a compliment she insists it’s about someone else because she simply cannot see her good qualities that others can.īut I also really loved Jeremy. I felt like I was extremely her in basically every chapter. I was destined to love this book – it has a protagonist who loves lists! How could I not love her!? Chloe lives her life by those lists…but also gets really behind on those lists. ![]() ![]() ![]() The kids discover they are caught in a battle between two opposing forces that want very different things for Jonah and Chip's lives.ĭo Jonah and Chip have any choice in the matter? As Perel points out, desire is often connected to uncertainty, and uncertainty implies and craves space. Through this blending of their identities, they unintentionally extinguish their flame of desire. Often, they have become so close that they have merged into one. The concepts presented and the couples detailed throughout her book ring true to what I have noticed in my own clinical work. Other times, however, a couple may describe a wonderful relationship, and yet their sex life has faltered.Įsther Perel’s groundbreaking book, Mating in Captivity, writes of such couples with extraordinary insight and tremendous depth. ![]() So, if you help a couple increase intimacy and enhance communication, and you employ the sex therapy strategies appropriate to any sexual dysfunction, great sex will follow. She is full of hope, has a beautiful zest for life, loves science and her family. Twelve year old Libby has Turner Syndrome. Such a fabulous book that I am definitely going to be recommending. I did shed a tear or two towards the end of the book but they were most definitely happy tears. One of my favourite parts is Libby’s retort to him when she is doing her presentation on Eleanor Roosevelt. They initially bond through them both suffering at the hands of the class bully. The friendship Libby eventually finds in Talia is lovely. Talking of words, I loved the Hard reading words that are dotted throughout the book, it really made me think about my vocabulary choices. Libby comes from such a supportive, loving and caring family and the bond between all of them shines through Sarah’s words. I don’t want to give anything away but I have definitely come away feeling a lot more knowledgeable on a number of subjects. Not only did I learn about that but also about Cecilia Payne. I’d never heard of that before, knew nothing about it but through Libby, it is clearly explained what it is, the effects and the implications for her future.
